lacuna coil - Our Truth

Our Truth: Or Our Bad

Clock is ticking while I'm killing time
Spinning all around
Nothing else that you can do
To turn it back
Wicked partnership in this crime
Ripping off the best, condescending smile
Trying to forget
(Wasting my time)
We're falling right through
Lying to forget
(Telling more lies)
We're raising our truth
COME and tease me
Clock is ticking while I'm still in time
Can't you turn it back?
Stop the cycle, set me free
Run away
Silence sneaking along my path
Grab the rope off me, feeling like we'll fly
(Feeling like we'll fly)
Time to forget
(Wasting my time)
The fall of my truth
Lying to forget
(Telling more lies)
We're raising our truth
Trying to forget
(Wasting my time)
We're falling right throughLying to forget
(Telling more lies)
We're raising our truth. Without A Reason
Will you wash my feet again
With the tears I've cried out?
Will you save me from my selfishness?
Feels like talking to a wall
In this universe I'm lost
As I keep on searching
On and on without a reason
Here I come to show you,
Our path it is your heart
I'm melting into you
Our destiny so cruel
In the journey of my existence
I felt strong in my believes
Could I find a better way toThis reality?
Feels like talking to a wall
In this universe I'm lost
As I keep on searching
On and on without a reason
Here I come to show you,
Our path it is your heart
I'm melting into you
Our destiny so cruel
Feels like talking to a wall
Feels like talking to a wall
I'm melting into you
Our destiny so cruel
Feels like talking to a wall
Feels like talking to a wall
Feels like talking to a wall
Feels like talking to a wall

To begin, let it be known that this band has a bad reputation to begin with many fans of rock and metal music. The band Lacuna Coil is an Italian based gothic metal band that has been featured on the famous Ozzy Osbourne’s Ozzfest. They have had much success with previous singles and albums; however it appears as though the most recent song entitled “Our Truth” has accomplished very little. Surprisingly, even though the song has been featured on the popular music based video game Rock Band 2, unlike other songs, it stills has yet to show any signs of popularity here in the United States. The song was also featured on the soundtrack to the hit movie, Underworld: Evolution.
The song contains many of the same poetic devices, mainly being metaphors. They sing that “Clock is ticking while I'm killing time” and also say “Nothing else you can do to turn it back”, it being time; as we all know, one can not literally kill time, it is a constant thing that can not be altered. During the chorus, they end on the phrase “erasing our truth”, again, truth is not a tangible thing, it is something that we express as human beings. Also, in the beginning and at the end of the song, they lead singer does a kind of religious, or ritualistic whaling; many do not understand or see the relevance of this.
Not only lyrically the song was written poorly, but instrumentally there seemed to be many flaws. Before the final session of “whaling”, there seems to be an attempt to do a breakdown or something of that nature, but it seems to be more of a tribal beat and seems no to convey the same emotions. Also there is a portion that the instruments seem to stop and the song goes to a feedback like sampling then return to the music. Is there any true relevance to this? It seems as though they were competing with some one or just trying to make the song longer than originally though. Some sections of the song seem to be extremely choppy, while the vocals seem to be continuing in a flowing manner.
It seems that due to the lead singer, Cristina Scabbia, has let the fact that she is dating a famed guitarist, James Root of Slipknot and Stone Sour, go to her head. Thus causing her, and her band mates, to be less innovative, and relay on the fame and support of James’ bands. Also, they seem to be “selling out”; the reason for this though is that fact that this song has been featured in many different places, as previously stated.
In conclusion, let it be known that, just because a band or song is labeled as rock or metal does not mean that will instantly be love by all of those who find a majority of metal entertaining.
