The band Lacuna Coil is an Italian based gothic metal band that has been featured on the famous Ozzy Osbourne’s Ozzfest. They have had much success with previous singles and albums; however it appears as though the most recent song entitled “Our Truth” has accomplished very little. Surprisingly, even though the song has been featured on the popular music based video game Rock Band 2, unlike other songs, it stills has yet to show any signs of popularity here in the United States. The song was also featured on the soundtrack to the hit movie, Underworld: Evolution.
The song contains many of the same poetic devices, mainly being metaphors. They sing that “Clock is ticking while I'm killing time” and also say “Nothing else you can do to turn it back”, it being time; as we all know, one can not literally kill time, it is a constant thing that can not be altered. During the chorus, they end on the phrase “erasing our truth”, again, truth is not a tangible thing, it is something that we express as human beings. Also, in the beginning and at the end of the song, they lead singer does a kind of religious, or ritualistic whaling; many do not understand or see the relevance of this.
Not only lyrically the song was written poorly, but instrumentally there seemed to be many flaws. Before the final session of “whaling”, there seems to be an attempt to do a breakdown or something of that nature, but it seems to be more of a tribal beat and seems no to convey the same emotions. Also there is a portion that the instruments seem to stop and the song goes to a feedback like sampling then return to the music. Is there any true relevance to this? It seems as though they were competing with some one or just trying to make the song longer than originally though. Some sections of the song seem to be extremely choppy, while the vocals seem to be continuing in a flowing manner.
It seems that due to the lead singer, Cristina Scabbia, has let the fact that she is dating a famed guitarist, James Root of Slipknot and Stone Sour, go to her head. Thus causing her, and her band mates, to be less innovative, and relay on the fame and support of James’ bands. Also, they seem to be “selling out”; the reason for this though is that fact that this song has been featured in many different places, as previously stated.
In conclusion, let it be known that, just because a band or song is labeled as rock or metal does not mean that will instantly be love by all of those who find a majority of metal entertaining.Ross Phttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10666451136659032292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2301247981149326633.post-9307873283470396952009-02-25T17:57:00.000-08:002009-03-05T08:11:36.222-08:00SimileRivalries-Spring In January

Separated frowns.
Dangle across the horizon.
But then the sun comes up.
Causing them to collide into each other.
Depression, sadness, hatred and sorrow.
All of these things, I do not feel when I see your smile.
When you smile at me, when our hands are held.
Up come flowers, up come flowers.
I'm sorry your so perfect.
Walking every morning, every memory.
(All of these things)
Tracks are fun, but we walk them.
I live in your smile,
I breathe in your eyes.
Our hands and our hearts,
beat together like a perfect sunrise.
I'm only 17, I promise forever.
Keep saying you miss me and
I will stop hating the east coast.

https://www.purevolume.com/player/popup?a=99555081

This song by the new band Rivalries, was written by lead singer and song writter Shane Himalman. At the age of seventeen he feels as though he has seen alot of different things and feels he should share what he's found with the world. Although the second line of the song has become popular due to it's sexually explicit message, it actually reffers to the moon and how it appears to just sway. The only real simile is "our hands and our hearts beat togather like a perfect sunrise" This is comparing their relationship to that of how beautiful a sunrise can be. Also, how wonderful and how this relationship is the only sure thing in his life, like the sunrise.Ross Phttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10666451136659032292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2301247981149326633.post-79001671659633982382009-02-05T06:50:00.000-08:002009-02-09T09:21:39.941-08:00Narrative- Vermillion by SlipknotShe seems dressed in all the rings

Of past fatalities
So fragile yet so devious
She continues to see it
Climatic hands that press
Her temples and my chest
Enter the night that she came home
Forever

Oh (She's the only one that makes me sad)

She is everything and more
The solemn hypnotic
My Dahlia bathed in possession
She is home to me
I get nervous, perverse, when I see her it's worse
But the stress is astounding
It's now or never she's coming home
Forever

Oh (She's the only one that makes me sad)

Hard to say what caught my attention
Fixed And crazy, Aphid Attraction
Carve my name in my face, to recognize
Such a pheromone cult to terrorize

I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me

(Yeah!)

I'm a slave, and I am a master
No restraints and, unchecked collectors
I exist through my need, to self oblige
She is something in me, that I despise

I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me

I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me

SHE ISN'T REAL!
I CAN'T MAKE HER REAL!
SHE ISN'T REAL!
I CAN'T MAKE HER REAL!

(She isn't real, I can't make her real)
(She isn't real, I can't make her real)

This song tells the story of a girl that is so perfect, but then realizing that she isn't real and there's nothing that he can do to change that. This song relates to my topic because its metal and it talks about the anger and depression that he feels because the fact that his dream girl is just that, a dream.Ross Phttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10666451136659032292noreply@blogger.com0
